The hotel has been a central part of village life for many generations. In fact, the area was once the centre of the village. There is a full itinerary of events at the hotel that will suit most tastes, from the traditional pub quiz and darts, to monthly village choir nights around the piano, BBQs during the summer and 60s party nights.

The Sir William prides itself on producing quality local fare; home cooked food at its best. There is a full menu and local and seasonal specials. Special diet requests can be catered for. Please mention when booking to ensure your request can be organised in advance.
Breakfast is a full Derbyshire affair that is sure to give you the start you need for the day. If you have any special requests we will do our utmost to ensure that they are met.
Please that note the restaurant is closed on a Sunday evening.

The Peak District is one of the most beautiful parts of Britain and the Sir William Hotel is ideally situated to take advantage of all that the area has to offer.
There are many walks in the area, from gentle strolls along the River Derwent to energetic hikes over hills and moors. The landscape is also ideal for those who enjoy climbing, gliding, hang-gliding and cycling.
This part of the Peak District boasts many of the country's most beautiful historic houses and villages, such as Castleton, Bakewell, Buxton and Eyam. Chatsworth House is also close by.

By car from Manchester:
- Follow the A6 for Stockport then Chapel-en-le-Frith.
- Exit onto the A623 for Calver and at Calver Crossroads turn left for Grindleford (B6251).
- In Grindleford, turn left for Hathersage (B6001).
- The Sir William Hotel is located 100 yards from the junction of the B6251 and the B6001 on the right hand side.
By car from Birmingham:
- Take the M42 north for Tamworth.
- Join the M1 (north) and exit at junction 29.
- Take the A617 for Chesterfield town centre.
- Take the A619 for Baslow then the A623 for Calver.
- At Calver Crossroads turn right onto the B6251 for Grindleford.
- Continue as above.
